TIKKUN ECO CENTER
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
From Desertification to Regeneration:
Scalable Model for Regional Impact
Watershed Restoration • Reservoir Rehabilitation • Reforestation • Agroforestry
The Tikkun Center is located in the semi-arid highlands of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Our region faces severe environmental pressures, including desertification, food and water insecurity, economic hardship, and migration pressures in rural communities.
Our work is grounded in the principle of restoring ecological balance while empowering communities to steward their own landscapes, recognizing that water, soil, forests, and community systems are interconnectedand must be restored together.
Tikkun’s San Miguel Restoration Projects are a set of integrated ecological and community-based initiatives focused on watershed restoration, rainwater harvesting, reforestation, agroforestry and regenerative land management.
Our Planting for Change and Agua Para la Vida programs work in tandem, integrating rainwater harvesting, watershed restoration, native reforestation and agroforestry into a scalable model designed to:
Support ejido-based subsistence farmers
Restore degraded landscapes
Strengthen climate resilience
Improve food and water security
Regenerate local ecosystems
Our projects demonstrate that large-scale ecological restoration is both achievable and essential by combining scientific knowledge, traditional land practices, community education, participation and leadership.
PLANTING FOR CHANGE
Planting for Change is a scaleable, replicable program to support rural communities in restoring ecological and economic resilience through reforestation and agroforestry. We gather engandered seeds to propagate and plant native and endemic trees, shrubs and cacti. Our dedicated nurseries train local women and students in the production and care of these vital biodiverse species.
AGUA PARA LA VIDA
The Tikkun Agua Para la Vida project restores traditional rainwater reservoirs in rural farming villages surrounding San Miguel de Allende impacted by drought, toxic well water, and climate extremes.
TIKKUN EARTH SCHOOL
Tikkun offers students the opportunity to learn and implement ecological solutions for the health of their communities.
The Tikkun Earth School hosts students, Kindergarten through University, Mexican, expat, or international service learning groups.
We invite young people to discover their role as stewards of Earth’s ecosystems, by engaging in ecological service, planting native trees, restoring rainwater reservoirs and watersheds, and developing community gardens. Such work roots them in a deeper sense of place and empowers them to become agents of positive change.
OUR CENTER
Our Center is a beautiful demonstration site offering education, workshops, volunteer opportunities, internships, tours and retreats.
Tikkun Eco Center is located 30 minutes north of the center of San Miguel de Allende. In the past 15 years we have transformed our 3 hectares from dry scrub brush into an oasis of beauty and abundance.
Our off-grid center includes green building with adobe, extensive water catchment systems and ponds, organic gardens and orchard, bee hives, and thousands of trees, cactus, vines and flowers, which attract wildlife and seasonal migrations of Monarch butterflies!

OUR VISION
We believe it is a spiritual and moral duty to heal the damage to our world and to ensure an abundant and beautiful future for our children, our grandchildren, and all beings on Earth.
“You carry Mother Earth within you. She is not outside of you.
Mother Earth is not just your environment.
In that insight of inter-being, it is possible to have real communication with the Earth, which is the highest form of prayer.”
- Thich Naht Hahn
